Bye, Bye Ollie!

This is Oliver Hootington III, a needle felted owl I made a while back.  John cut a slice of a white birch log for his base last week and now he is off to the Shaker Village in New Gloucester, Maine today for the online auction.  I try to donate something every year to the auction that raises money for the maintenance of this historic property.  There are only 3 Shakers, 2 brothers and 1 sister, left there but there are many, many people working to preserve the 1,000 acre property and its buildings chief among this is the restoration of the barn and development of a learning center in the Herb House.  Both projects recently received grants totally $1, 250, 000.  I hope Ollie plays a small part in this effort.  It is Open Farm Day today at the village so I will drop Ollie off and tour this amazing place.  Here is a link to the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village.  Gift#203: being able to support this place in a small way.
