Father Musical Cascade

The father of the singer Tony Bennett, who has just passed away, died in America when Tony was only ten. Tony was told that his dad used to stand on the top of a mountain in the transalpine area of his native Italy where he lived and fill the valley below with song. ‘That’s why I sing’, he said.

Tony was my own father’s favourite crooner and that’s why his albums with KD Lang and his Duets album were so regularly played and embraced in our recent lockdown times.

Frank Sinatra said Tony was the best of them all, and, hopefully, the selection below confirms that. All great singers inhabit their songs, and Bennett, no matter how many times he has sung them, never fails to do so, bringing something extra that only he could to the delivery.

There’ll be silence in many valleys tonight.

A Selection - and don’t miss him with Judy Garland.

What’s your favourite from this lot, or perhaps you have you have your own!
