A Breakwater Trilogy, Rye Harbour

Another strike day on the trains so another day I had to book as holiday (I think that's eight and counting so far this year). Therefore, our rule is that we have to go somewhere to make something of the day. Our choice today was Rye Harbour and luckily, despite the odd spell of drizzle, the weather held while still producing some wonderfully striking cloud formations. I decided to make today's images all about the monumental, yet fragile looking, breakwater at the harbour.
When we arrived we headed straight to the William Conqueror pub for a pint. It is an amazing location but unfortunately the staff can rarely crack a smile between them! After we had consumed our beverages we walked the long straight path to the seafront itself and that's when my breakwater trilogy came in to focus. With the main image I just had to include the man basting himself in the midday sun. I loved his tiny frame against the monumentality of all that weatherbeaten wood. With the extra two images I tried to encapsulate different aspects of the breakwater's arresting beauty.
On the way home we stopped off in Headcorn for a late lunch of toasted sandwiches with salad and coleslaw. It was a perfect ending to another great seaside sortie!
