What to say about today? Went into DC, they fixed my work computer, we had a picnic where people could meet one of the employees who is in town from Ghana, and then marched off to a meeting, getting drenched in sweat in the process.
The high was “only” 90 degrees F in DC and we are in for much, much worse this year. There is an article in the Washington Post saying we are “living through Earth’s hottest month on record.” It was only 90 in DC, it was worse elsewhere, like Rome.
Years of training with NATO forces have resulted in Ukrainian troops and officers being more agile than Russians.
Lower level commanders are empowered to make decisions. Running every single decision up the chain of command is a Soviet approach still used by Russia.
Ukraine’s top general is Valero Zaluzhny. He spent years transforming the Ukraine military from a feudal, Soviet model to a modern one. He asks his soldiers for input. He tells his subordinates they are doing a good job or calls them an endearment.
Putin has decided not to go to South Africa. There is going to be a conference there, but there is an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court. South Africa, as a signatory, would have been obligated to arrest him. This has been a concern of Russia and South Africa’s for months.
