Busy Leafcutter Bees

It was so interesting watching the female leafcutter bees at work today. Not that easy to capture them in flight carrying pieces of leaf. They make cells in holes in which to lay their eggs by chewing up the bits of leaf and mixing it with saliva. They then seal the entrance to the hole with more leaf pieces. I love it that our old carnation bed supports in the skip are a big bee hotel.
