Junction 16a
Up in Cowcaddens to collect the new bike, I passed under the M8 on the way back to work. Now this area of the M8 contains a number of interesting bits of unrealised architecture. One of these is Junction 16a, where an on-ramp from a south-bound motorway would have come on to the westbound M8 - in the outside i.e. fast lane. Where it would have joined on can be seen above. More photos and a better description at this site
Obviously, future planners realised that on-ramps into the fast lane were a bloody stupid thing, and so this was abandoned. There is however still one eastbound on to the M8 from the A82 - I heard it was the only such on-ramp in the UK but this could be hearsay.
