Hunters Tor

I was out today with the walking group, something I have not managed to do many times this year.  As it was a walk on Dartmoor it attracted me and I made a last minute decision the day before to attend.

We arrived in the very picturesque village of Lustleigh and quickly began climbing out of the valley.  It became a very steep and steady climb to the top edge of the cleave through very green woodland and out into areas where the luxuriant fern growth towered around us.  Those in shorts and exposed arms were wondering about ticks as we passed through many areas of this growth.  We eventually arrived at Hunters Tor for a late coffee stop with the added bonus of home made lemon drizzle cake a member had thoughtfully made.  From here there were lovely views across the moor.  In the extra you can see from Hunters Tor in the foreground across the valley to a Church in North Bovey and the large Bovey Castle ( a hotel).

We continued our walk down through the dense woodland of the cleave and along an undulating path stopping for a picnic lunch in a more open area.  It was then a short walk back to the village.  The sun was even making an appearance as we returned.  An enjoyable 6 mile walk with some lovely views.  We all had quite a vigorous work out as well as the first part of the walk was pretty steep.

Later this afternoon I visited the allotment picking the last of the blackcurrants.  Looks like my tomato crop won't do so well this year as its either got a virus infection or its the herbicide contamination that is causing the odd stunted and twisted young leaves.
