Spinning Around

Not the best place I thought to have lingered early morning for the soldier beetle who was being spun round with a web as an early breakfast for this orb spider.

It wasn't hugely early but neither was it that late when I donned wellies to go into the field and check out the thistle patch. The butterflies I'd seen yesterday had dispersed for the night over the grasses and when I searched hard the skippers were down low. The Gatekeepers were mid-point on the stalks and were wary but bright though they were, it took an age to find the marbled whites which actually were posing on the grass heads but spread out a fair bit.
