Pipevine Swallowtail on Red Clover

We went for a Monday morning swim at Whipple Dam, and as I was toweling off, I spotted a butterfly land on a red clover by the beach. I stood up, walked over, and took about a dozen photos.

Only when I got home did I realize what I'd gotten. I'd thought that it was probably a spicebush swallowtail, but a closer look at the bright tealy blues on its body and hind wings told the true story: this is pipevine swallowtail Battus philenor, a butterfly I seldom get to see!

My song for this electric blue butterfly is Icehouse, with Electric Blue.
