Petunia patagonica

A perennial cushion forming petunia from Southern Patagonia. This can notoriously shy flowering in cultivation. This is a form Denver Botanic Gardens received from Alpines Mt Echo 10 years ago.

In the wild the cushions are a meter + in diameter and must be centuries old. A survey of plants in the wild showed individuals loaded with spent flowers and some with not a single flower. Other had part of the cushion covered while the other half lay bare.

We have much to learn about Patagonian and steppe flora worldwide.
