Bestwood Colliery Winding Engine (again!)

Beck and I did pretty much the same bike ride as last week, only without the useless detours and long final accidental stretch along the roads of Rise Park. When we went past the Winding Engine this time there was a 'Big Lunch' event on to where they were trying to feed a thousand people for the cost of an average families annual food waste (nearly 700 quid, pretty scary.) We'd bought a picinic to eat by the lake so we didn't waste that, but we did listen to the colliery band and take a guided tour of the Winding Engine House. It was cool right at the top when the guy opened the little door they used to crawl out of to grease the headstocks. A very pleasant afternoon all round.
