Forging ahead

This is typical of the old Strand part of Cardigan town, the once busy working area between the castle and the river where waterborne dispatches and deliveries were loaded and unloaded and tradespeople serviced the boats and carts. One dilapidated building that always caught my attention was an old forge with quantities rusty horseshoes and nails heaped outside (blipped eight years ago with a fine poem on the subject.)

I was delighted today to find that that the place has risen from the ashes and lives again as Old Forge Crafts, a shop full of good quality artisan products (including some blacksmithary). I spoke to the owner, Jason, who explained that the building is still owned by the farrier's family but he's been running it as a craft outlet for local artists and makers for four years. (Can't believe I didn't know but I suppose Covid intervened.) He himself is a wood turner who makes very nice bowls.
Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area although not easy to find.
