Zygocactus

Okay - had enough of Vivid shots for now so thought we would get back to a "basic" but very colourful flower.

The zygocactus (Schlumbergera truncata Hybrids) Originally grown by a Frédéric Schlumberger, who lived in a château near Rouen in France in the mid-nineteenth century. Although called a cacti they certainly do not live or generate from the desert. They are an epiphytes plant which normally depend on other plants for support, but not nutrition, and come from the jungles of southeast Brazil, a humid area with high rainfall.
At first were seen with bright cerise pink flowers, and from the breeding work of local as well as American and Japanese breeders, you now have a stunning array of flower colours and shapes.
Colours range from pink, lavenders and reds through to oranges, yellows and whites.
Grown anywhere in Australia, are great for hanging baskets indoor, patio flowers and give colour in autumn and winter.
They take little care, and although a "plain" plant through most of the year when in blossom give a stunning show.
