Meadow in the fens...
...but not a fen meadow, which is a very special type of wetland!
I was working with my trainee botanists again this afternoon, and the first part of the session was spent in this glorious, newly created meadow located in one of the most intensively cultivated parts of the fens.
Apparently it's not liked by many of the neighbouring farmers, but it was heaving with butterflies and other insects, and there were a pair of breeding skylark. We need a lot more areas like this in our arable landscapes...
