Life’s A Gas (pt2)
On 24th May, my blip was of a letter from the gas people saying they would be arriving “soon” to replace the gas main in our road.
Since then, we have watched them getting ever closer to our road and “soon” is now “today!” We have no doubts about the disruption that is going to be caused (having witnessed what the roads around us have gone through), though the one advantage of living in a cul-de-sac which branches off the top of another cul-de-sac, is that at least we’ll avoid the temporary traffic lights that have caused turmoil on all those other roads.
But we can’t avoid the massive trench down our side of the road and the accompanying barriers. Getting off our drive is tricky enough at the best of times, without them cordoning half of it off. Thankfully, when I pointed out how difficult they had made our access, they did rejig the barriers to give us a bit more room.
Tomorrow is when they will be putting the trench right across our drive though, so we might be trapped for a while until they can put one of the big metal sheets over the open trench. One thing that did surprise me was that they took away all the spoil they’d dug out of trench. I guess that if they left it piled up it might get washed away by the rain so it’ll be easier just to bring stuff back when they fill the trench back in.
Very impressed by the skill of the man controlling the grab though - he scooped everything up very quickly and neatly, all without hitting the barriers or our shrubs.
