‘Private Lanes’

There are quite a few of these around Edinburgh, mostly lanes behind rows of houses, offering access to back gardens and, in many cases, garages too, and for some houses, they are the only access.

While some are adopted by the Council, many are not. For the latter, the spread of Council parking restrictions - which only apply in streets adopted by the Council - has meant that residents have had to take their own measures, either by themselves or by getting an outside company, such as the National Parking Control Group, to do it!
