Summit

An other stunning day! In the morning we walked to Slættaratindur, the highest peak in the Faroes. The hike starts at 400 m (spectacular road winding up from sea level and back down on the other side) and goes to 890m. Steep to start with, but then you join a more gentle rising traverse, and finish a little bit of scrambling to an amazing view! The photo doesn't do it justice.

Back down, we continued North to Klaksvik, the second biggest town, where we hoped to get some lunch. The place that SparseRunner had in mind was closed so we asked a passerby and we're directed to a good place serving huge fish and chips - SparseRunner ate a good part of mine too! 

We then continued North to Viðareiði, the most northerly place you can drive to. It had clouded over and the hike to the local hill was another 700m climb so we just climbed above the village for the view, then explored the village itself .

Finally, before going back to Tórshavn, we went to the hamlet of Saksun. It's a very pretty place, with an old preserved farmhouse and a lovely white church, and the setting above a saltwater lagoon, we several waterfalls around is beautiful. We then went down to the lagoon and from there walked a kilometre along the river to the sea.
