Deep Divisions
We visited Londonderry (Derry) for a day and "felt" the deep divisions that still exist. The main image is of the persons killed on Bloody Sunday (30 January 1972) by British soldiers during a protest march in the Bogside area of Derry. We visited the Museum of Free Derry on the site of the incident and were moved by what they presented. The Loyalist (to the monarchy) on the opposite side of town, still feel under siege (see first Extra image). In this part of town even the gutters are painted red, white and blue. Extra two is the "Free Derry" sign that changes slightly from time to time. At the moment it is expressing solidarity with the Palestinians. Not being from this part of the world, we left feeling a little more informed/aware of the difficulties faced by the people here during the "troubles" and today (on both sides). I'm not a historian, but as a Psychologist I was moved emotionally.
