No Entry

We had a great day out with the RFS today. About 15 of us set off under the leadership of the National Parks ranger to familiarise ourselves with the fire trails in the Megalong, Jamison and Kedumba Valleys.
Some of this was into the catchment area for 80% of Sydney’s water supply where access to the public is strictly prohibited. We even got to the edge of the upper reaches of Warragamba Dam, a unique opportunity.

The two horses in the yards are wild brumbies which have just been captured as part of the campaign to remove them from the area. They will be tamed and re-homed as a continuation of the program featured in the local film “The Man From Coxs River.”

In the middle of the pano is a small clearing. We heard the story of William Maxwell who, in the 1880s, left his 10 year old son alone there to clear the land and maintain “continuous occupancy” for the best part of a year. He dropped in about once a month with supplies. Young Will survived the experience and also lived to a good age.

There are lots more photos and stories of the day but I’ll leave it at this.

After going to the farm to feed the horses, we called at my brother in law's. He is at his cabin with extended family and we arrived just in time for a drink and samples from the pizza oven:-)

Extra of Warragamba Dam is one of those accidental abstracts you only get when not looking for one.
