cycling nerd stuff (you have been warned)

Yesterday Mark Cavendish crashed out of the Tour de France.  This was to be his last Tour and a chance to beat Eddie Mercxx for the most stage wins in Tour history. As it is, he shares the record of 34 wins.  It’s a terrible way to end an illustrious career.

Back in 2008, Anniemay and I were at the Manchester Velodrome to see him and Bradley Wiggens win the world championship in the Madison race (a confusing event to the unintiated - you have to see it in real life to get it).  I didn’t know who he was back then, but later that summer with four stage wins in the TdeF, everyone knew who he was.

My blip is souvenier from the Manchester Velodrome.  A few years ago the wooden track was replaced and pieces were sold to raise funds.  It’s about 30cm long and sits on my window ledge.  An innocuous tribute a two-wheeled hero.
