Re-entry

We would both have stayed on, basking in the below-twenty temperatures. Instead we clambered into the roasting car at Pisa, oven ready at 35c, to drive back to the house.

The flight was delayed and maybe given wayleave to cut the London corner and head straight for Amsterdam. From there in clear light we flew up the Rhine. I could see the Rhine boats working up the river’s interminable looping bends. The wheat fields gave way to more forest and then the looming bulk of the Jungfrau. Then the long descent over the Ticino and Milan before the hop over the Apennines and the long bank out to sea before the Pisa approach.

The weather looks fearful for the next week, the North African high pressure system firmly in control. Still, the potted plants have survived and the garden looks ok although grasses and weeds have grown surprisingly tall in six days.
