Turn 4 - British Speedway Grand Prix 2013

The first day of summer in meteorological terms, and that time of year when I make my now annual pilgrimage to the Millennium Stadium to watch blokes on bikes with no brakes skid sideways for a living. It was time for the 2013 British Speedway Grand Prix.

40,000 noisy spectators packed into the stadium in the hope of seeing Britain's Tai Woffinden pick up a second Grand Prix win of the series. It all started so well, Tai was out in heat one and started with a win, which also put him top of the World standings. The place went bonkers! He followed that up with two second places, and all was looking good for a semi final place, and then disaster struck when he was involved in a massive crash. The result - a broken collar bone and the end of his evening. I must admit the stadium did go a bit flat after that. Chris Harris (the other British rider in the event - riding as a wildcard) livened things up with the heat of the night, but it all felt a little anti-climatic. The track also began to break up badly, something it hasn't done in previous years, and it began to effect the racing.

It was a still a great night out, and always a highlight of the year for me. I would like to thank Dawn's parents as always for the tickets, I have no doubt they will be on the phone on Monday booking 2014's tickets!

A bit of film from the night also filmed on the Sony DX-7.

Freddie Lindgren crashes out.
