Helter Skelter

All the fun of the fair has come to town. Cruel circus trainer were literally whipping a whole coterie of melancholy lions, tigers and elephants into shape, predatory clowns were seducing trapeze artists round the back of marquees, and the cars of the waltzer, or whatever it is to be, were still to be unloaded from their lorry, impotent, waiting for life, for speed, for fear.
