The mill of Strijthagen

The Strijthagermolen is a medium-stroke water mill in the Strijthagerbeek Valley that was originally part of the park and property of Strijthagen Castle in the Dutch municipality of Landgraaf. The water wheel is driven by water from the dam pond at the castle, which in turn is fed by the Strijthagerbeek.

The mill was built in 1617 as a flour mill and was rebuilt around 1700 in its current form. The mill operated with a wooden overshot wheel until the middle of the 19th century. After the mill was demolished in 1950 as a result of the mine subsidence, this was replaced during a large-scale restoration in 1989 by the current medium-sized wheel with a diameter of 5.1 m.
