Plymouth symbol

Off to church this morning for communion service then opened the shop and sold some mugs at held price as we are just getting rid of the stock now. Then walked round the Barbican and noticed again this symbol of the city! I have no idea what it represents but it looks fearsome! Wouldn’t like to meet it in the sea!
