I had to stay in today because a gas engineer was coming to service the boiler.  He then left, saying he was going to get a replacement part.  He said he would either be back with the part or phone me.  He did neither!
I searched online and the part needed costs from £45 (ebay) to £154 (a gas services supplier).  I wonder how much my service engineer will charge me?
