Harry's Falls

Some time ago I told you about famous Blue Mountains Photographer, Harry Phillips. One well known picture of Harry's is this one (circa 1915) of the Leura Falls in full flood. Here it has been rendered as a huge painted mural on the side of the Commonwealth Bank building in Katoomba.

Curiously, these people (decked out in cumbersome old style clothing) look as if they have just casually strolled off the main street. In actual fact, to get to where these models are standing is a considerable climb down into the Jamison valley and I don't even want to talk about the climb back up. The trouble is that after the kind of rain that makes for this water volume, many of the established walking tracks which lead to the spot depicted, become more or less impassable.

One can only imagine the trouble to which Harry and his people were put in order to get the picture which inspired this mural.
