Life in a Northern Town

Leeds again

We are back in Leeds for Sarah to feed her book
buying addiction. Parked on the top floor of the carpark, which afforded me a Blip!

My new voluntary job, which seemed like it would come to nothing, has now jumped into life. I’ll be giving talks on behalf of Medical Detection Dogs, a charity undertaking mind-blowing research into the detection of diseases and infections by dogs, and also providing assistance dogs to people with various medical conditions. I knew I couldn’t work face to face with dogs as I’d be adopting a new one every week - this is a way of feeling connected to dogs and extolling their praises. I have two new talks coming up in the next few weeks, one of which is to Parkinson’s UK, a cause dear to my heart as my good friend lost her husband to the disease. There is promising research that detection dogs may be able to pick up the disease in its very early stages, allowing for drugs to slow its progression. It’s very exciting, the dogs are absolutely amazing, and the more I find out about it the more impressed I am.

Sadly none of the detection or assistance dogs are greyhounds - my greyhounds had their own therapeutic properties for me, as all dogs do for their families.
