Today I went to Marymount Falls and then Sol Duc Falls. There was no one there this morning. I was warned it would be mobbed if I went last night, but I was tired last night and it was right on the way to Sol Duc this morning. .Not only was it not mobbed, it would have been easier to follow the trail if there had been more people.

Picture me wandering a trail and getting to a fork where there is a beautiful lake on the left and a culvert to the right. Am I really supposed to go walk into a metal pipe? Yes, apparently I was. Then I walked a long way, wondering if I was going anywhere I meant to, when I finally met two lovely women who assured me I was on the way to the falls, to ignore every side route, to go right after the bridge, and at the falls loop to go left so I could look at the falls while climbing up. BEST ADVICE. I then saw them both on the way to Sol Duc and thanked them again.

The family friend accompanied me again today and it was wonderful hiking with her. She and her husband know a lot about botany and birds so there was lots of joy and explanation in everything we saw. We even saw an otter! We saw the otter for two seconds so no photographic proof, but it was cool.

Now I am going to make dinner and go to bed.

Portland Japanese Gardens - what about meeting at 2, July 8, inside the entrance? Then I’ll have dinner with tookie at 5?
