Le Viaer Marchi
Tonight was the annual National Trust in Guernsey’s … Le Viaer Marchi or in English the old market. Thousands flock to Saumarez Park to have Bean Jar (a local bean soup), local cider, Guernsey Gâche (a fruit bread), Guernsey Biscuits (a bit like a round flat roll but much better), Guernsey Ice Cream and Guernsey Cheese and butter. There were lots of stalls selling local crafts. Singing groups and local folk dancing in local costume. In the photos you can see rope making, clothes pegs, Guernsey cans, crab pots and spinning! Here you meet folk you just don’t see for ages and it’s a real community occasion!
