Winter Tree
If we were to cut this tree down, we would see its years contained within it as concentric circles - twenty or forty or eighty of them. The easy years wider than the hard. Now, in the middle of Winter, it is done with the dying year and has yet to start the new - the twenty-first or forty-first or eighty-first.
And we resist the temptation to look at the past.
