Successfully graded at 4th Kyu (Purple belt in this club) this evening. 

However, what was more pleasing was that C, who rather anxiously started karate a few months ago and is possibly the last person in our circle of friends we would have expected to do so, successfully graded 8th Kyu at her first grading.

Karate belt colours are not standardised, nor the number of 'Kyu' levels, but the levels always count downwards towards 1, with that being the last belt before the first 'Dan' grade black belt, which then count upwards.


Some blippers may recall I've graded 1st Dan in one tradition and 2nd Dan in another.  My current club, rightly, requires I grade through all the belts again to give enough attention to the (mostly) subtle differences between traditions.
