Baby squirrels

This may look to you, the regular viewer, like a raincoat thrown over a cycle helmet on a tree, but you would be mistaken. It is, in fact, a hibernation rug thrown lovingly over two baby squirrels (my grandchildren, aged 5 and 3 years). For this activity I was Co-opted as mummy squirrel and had to sit in a tree for some time, sending the baby squirrels out when winter was over to collect nuts for our cupboard. Thankfully winter only lasted for about ten seconds, so the forays out for nuts were fairly regular.

I’m in Edinburgh for a couple of days, having driven up with No1 Peanut and the baby Baggins from Liverpool. The drive up the M6 was awful, taking us 6 hours instead of just over 4. Grim. And the baby cried for about two hours solid towards the end. We were very glad to arrive at the home of the Precious at 11pm.

The silver lining is getting to be nana to my lovely grandchildren while my two daughters catch up. It’s about four weeks to go before the twins arrive. Eeeeeeeee!
