These boys have spent every evening bar Sunday for the last week gathering water and sand for the construction of the local birthing centre.

Their older brothers and cousins had originally agreed to do the building but then came back looking for a fee that was at the very top of the scale of the local market rate... However two other local men stepped up to the challenge, and these boys wait patiently for me each day at 3.30... Only one of them speaks English, another is still in the equivilant of sixth class (UK P8), at aged 15, possibly by choice.
Afterwards he had been offering Nsima (which I politely but firmly
declined) but since has had a banana or two for me each evening from a small sack he has.

On Saturday (after a long phone call home while I was parked there) they presented a CD of Malawian music... With the assistance of a Mitsubish Colt, Sony Xplod CD Player 20 people - including the birth attendant, her daughters, neighbours, and the boys danced for over an hour.

Its also worth noting that the oldest of these boys is about 20... the
24 yr olds and up are constantly drunk and don't work... they also were encouraging the oldest of these boys to join them. Seemingly there is a youth club, and the Capuchins run occasional discos... I'll try to meet them see is there anything we can work on, together?
