St Michael’s Beetham

When we are up here this is our nearest parish church, and a very fine building it is.

Like a lot of ancient churches its surviving parts are of varying ages. The base of the tower may be pre Norman, the rest (like much of the church) is 16th century. There are Norman elements, and then like most churches, a lot of 19th century restoration. And like a lot of churches, it sits next to a pub (although the Wheatsheaf calls itself a hotel).

I was on my way early morning to our nearest supermarket for essential items and had a brief stop to take a photo or two.
