Coming Down Penobscot
aloft on the mountains
Sea-fogs pitched their tents, and mists from the mighty Atlantic
Looked on the happy valley
from Evangeline, by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
I was glad not to let the fog and rain keep me home today, and I timed my hike up Penobscot perfectly. The whole place was socked in by fog and it was impossible to see any of the view, but I knew that would be the case going in so didn't mind. I still got to spend a little time enjoying a favorite spot just below the summit (extra), and got back to the car just as the skies opened up and let loose a torrential downpour. By the time I got home I felt I had earned the right to relax for the rest of the day.
