Flower Friday : : Chicory*

Thank you all you lovely people for the anniversary wishes. Our wedding anniversary has often been forgotten in the scrum of daily life. I remember one morning years ago we were sitting at Peets, as we did every day, and our friend Nancy called across to us from another bench saying, 'Happy anniversary...' John and I looked at each other blankly. We got a bit of an ovation from other people drinking coffee in the courtyard as the light finally dawned on us and we acknowledged her greeting.

This year, we were reminded by a texted video from my brother and his wife. We celebrated by having coffee and a lovely pastry at the French bakery while comparing spaniel stories with two women at the next table with a Cavalier King Charles (apparently mixed with a bit of Pekinese, although that was not apparent.) We really pushed the boat out when we went back inside for a sandwich to take home for lunch.

Our tree trimming meeting with the neighbors with a quiche to follow never materialized, so I finally texted to see if they were ok. In fact, they were not. She came down with covid the day she requested that we postpone our meeting because she had been digging mulch and overdone it. She said she couldn't remember being so sick and was glad she had had all her vaccinations. Her husband came down with it a couple of days later. I made the quiche anyway and took it over to them. I was reminded of the bad old days as I left the quiche on the doorstep and rang the doorbell.

We have gone from cool weather to a mini heatwave overnight.  The high today was 90F/32C and it is supposed to be hotter tomorrow. We can't let Spike out on the driveway because he will burn his paws, so we've been throwing his Kong up and down the hallway.
In other news....
I'm holding the quilt picture for a few days because I just put it in the mail this morning but the people I made it for usually read my posts.
We gave the giant zucchini to our friend Tobi who is leading a pickling workshop for 'food waste week' and will use it to demonstrate. I wonder what pickled zucchini tastes like?

*The chicory comes up in the same spot at Spring Lake every year, springing out of the dead grass with a jaunty color. It even grows taller with as the grass grows up.
