History
If you’ve ever driven down the A42 near Ashby De La Zouch you have probably spotted this church on a prominent hill. It’s St Mary and St Hardulph and it’s an Anglo Saxon foundation and a lot of the carvings from the original church are incorporated into the structure of the newer church. Last time we were here we bumped into a local chap who informed us that if you look off the hill to the East there’s nothing between you and the Urals. Don’t quote me on it!
Bought some chocolate in the village and took a picnic to Ashby DLZ castle for lunch. Couldn’t go up the tower as there are Peregrine Falcons nesting. Thrilling to see them but not thrilled by my photo.
All in all a fabulous week.
