Endeavour
The village Social Club trip to Whitby. The first such trip Clickychick and I have been on. We were very lucky with the weather, sunshine and pleasant temperatures all day. In the past CC and I have spent quite a bit of time in Whitby when our friend I had a caravan site in Goathland, so it was great to be revisiting places we knew well bringing back memories of times we were over there with the girls.
The blip is a replica, well in shape it is, of Captain Cook's ship. Being made of steel did rather detract from the image. It is being used as a cafe/restaurant. We had a very pleasant sit in the sun on deck drinking coffee and watching the world go round.
At one point there was a notice saying this the lowest deck (the orlop deck) was where the ship's pantry was. The list of what it would contain at the start of the voyage was incredible.
1200 gals of beer in barrels
1600 gals of Brandy and Rum in Barrels
21226 Lbs of Bread in Bags
13,440 Lbs of Bread in Barrels
4,000 Lbs of Salt Beef in Barrels
7,060 Lbs of Sauerkraut in barrels
It also said Soup was stored in dried slabs, which sounded rather ahead of its time to me.
