Weaver’s, or Violet, Fritilliary

A new one for me, spotted just before the storms arrived. Can you see the violet band?

I am lucky to know a butterfly expert, Guy Padfield, who lives in the area and who will identify butterflies if I am not sure. There are 19 species of Fritilliary in our area apparently! I thought I got it right calling it Titania’s but he sent me back to school, “Titania’s is close but it is actually a Violet Fritilliary (also known as Weaver’s Fritilliary).”

An exhausting morning cleaning the pond and discovering we have black salamanders, that’s a bonus. Now one more yoga class to teach then it is Summer holidays!
