Dinner by the river

After work I met the rest of the family and had dinner on the Thames (across the bridge from Embankment station). There were lots of Australians in town after stumps in the cricket, and I hope they're ready for the 10 to 15% compulsory "service charge" that seems to appear on every restaurant bill. We've relocated to a friend's house in Brixton. Our unit is lovely but the locals are a bit of a different breed from what we saw in Belgravia. We even got to witness a real fight from the security of our appartment which the boys loved! I got talking to a friendly life long resident, a slightly rough around the edges black bloke in his 30's. It was a great conversation during which he generously shared his knowledge of Australia. He spoke affectionately about Home and Away, Steve Irwin, and our apparent close proximity to Canada! I didn't have the heart to tell him that Home and Away is finished, that Steve Irwin is dead, and couldn't see how I could address the subject of geography without sounding straight out contradictory. He also tried to speak Australian to me but was pretty rusty. The only words I really understood were "G'day mate".
