At the National Memorial Arboretum

My first visit to the National Memorial Arboretum. I had no idea it covered so many acres, had so many different memorials to many different parts of our armed forces and some from overseas as well. It was designed to honour all the men and women in our armed services who have died during active service since the Second World War. There are also lots of trees!

There is one big central memorial …see first extra ..and the first blip shows detail of one of the sculptures. Around the walls are the names of all the people to be remembered up to 2022.

Two other notable memorials are in the extras….a recent one to submariners and also the ‘Shot at Dawn’ memorial which has  a post for each of the young men shot at dawn for some minor misdemeanour in WW1.

We were so surprised it was not busy today so great to look around both outdoors and the inside exhibition without any crowds. Plus nice restaurant too. Well worth a visit. Also lots of really helpful volunteers to tell you about various memorials.
