Philippe's salvation
Philippe has learnt many things today - for his life is an intrepid voyage of cycle and foodstuff related discovery.
There is a way back from ignominious scandal and calamitous failure.
That, contrary to popular opinion, there are days in Scotland where shorts are not only possible but a boon.
That cold Scotch pies, however initially inviting, are not an appropriate, or digestible, freebie to give a cyclist after completing a 72 mile event.
That he needs to find friends with bicycle racks. The eight mile journey to the start - and more critically, from the finish - would have broken a lesser man.
...and that salvation comes at a painful price. Luckily Philippe rocks that whole 'walking like a cowboy' thing.
