The accidental finding

In which I meet the Mayor

I went to teach my student, S, as usual, then I persuaded him to go to the Trinity Rooms for lunch with me. We sat and chatted and various people came and went, but not my friends. A client came by and I asked her to hang around for a minute. She told me that her abusive husband had been jailed. Cause for celebration! She is very relieved that he's behind bars.

Then the Mayor of Stroud, Stella Parks, and her assistant(?) Kate turned up, to present me with my Town Council Award certificate, as I hadn't been able to collect in May, because I was away. They had changed 'nominee' to 'runner up' which I think is nicer.
I was nominated for the award for Equality and Diversity by the Assistant Mayor for my work as a social.ptescriber, but also for my voluntary work  (teaching English to an Afghani refugee and running a social group for older people). I do go the extra mile (I think nearly all social.prescribers do) but it's nice to be recognized. My student S took the photo outside the Trinity Rooms.

Then it was home for a rest, then CS and I went to a kind of VIP reception before a gig, not just any old gig, but the wonderful Emily Barker supporting the Soul legend that is PP. Arnold. Clean Steve has written about this on his blip for 23rd June. (We are not VIPs in a celebrity way, I am a patron of the Venus, which means they throw a few treats my way from time to time).

Let's just say it was a very good day and evening! Watch out for next Friday when I have another English lesson, a wake and another concert.
