John and Bob
Today we attended the funeral of the well loved friend and Rotarian, Bob Burnett.
Bob joined Rotary 60 years ago and amongst many achievements he was District Governor and a couple of years ago received an Order of Australia for "service worthy of particular recognition".
Probably his greatest achievement was bringing together the world Rotary President and and the world's medical expert on polio control in the lounge at Sydney Airport in the early 1980s. From that meeting PolioPlus was formed. Rotary has since donated over $2 billion towards the worldwide eradication of the disease.
Closer to home we remember Bob when he joined the local Rotarians to assist at our daughter's wedding at the farm.
Thinking guests might not want to be transported around by an octogenarian, we allocated him the job of parking control. He took to the role with great diligence and almost refused the celebrant entrance!
Pictured with Mr isbi in the blip is another legendary Rotarian, OAM and community figure, Bob Reid. We gave him a lift to the funeral and he entertained us the entire trip there and back. Mention a mountain name and Bob R has a story about them!
It was a bit disconcerting to note that the crematorium is well prepared for more customers with rows of, as yet, unmarked graves. (Extra).
