1987 Saturday — The M & Ms

1987: When Mitch & Trudy purchased their tandem bicycle in early 1987 we were elated. We had friends right in our own town to pedal with! Because their last name started with the letter “M” and so did ours, we became the M & Ms when we’d pedal together.

During the summer of 1986 we had taken a long two week bicycle ride from San Francisco to our home in SoCal with a group of other riders (all people we did not know previous to that trip) except Mitch. We rode our tandem and Mitch rode his mountain bike. Trudy stayed home because they did not (yet) have a tandem bicycle, and they didn’t even know they wanted one. So it was a major addition to our fun when they purchased a tandem some time in the next 24 months.

We spent many Saturdays together; starting early in the morning and riding 38 miles to the coast in Huntington Beach to get breakfast and then back to our town of Corona.
