Queen Tree

This was a massive horse chestnut planted to commemorate Queen Victoria’s jubilee. The weight of the limbs was pulling the tree apart along that fetching curve of trunk. The solution was to lop off the big branches, leaving her a much more compact shape. The leaves remember their age, still the large palmate leaves of a very mature tree.

She carries her years well, this beauty.
