One day in Orkney

Even though we started at 8am and finished exhausted at 6pm, we barely scratched the surface of the Mainland of the Orkneys. The main image is the Neolithic Ring of Brodgar, probably 4000 years old and so atmospheric. The first extra is the Viking Cathedral of St Magnus, started in 1137 when Kirkwall was in the diocese of Trondheim. The second extra is the Stone Age village of Skara Brae in a breathe-taking seaside setting. The weather could not have been more glorious!
