An earlier than planned start.... Loki managed to pee at 4; so a quick rejig of the sleeping arrangements - thankfully we had sleeping bags as a back up; but then he chucked at 5am to further cement his status as most hated dog in Torridon status.
No matter, Fi was kind of up anyway, and so slowly we got ourselves together and at 0730 we were at Gerry's Hostel and heading off into the wilds in pursuit of Maoile Lunndaidh.
It's a long trudge in; a land rover track goes miles into the wilds and with clegs and the sun beating down, even at that early hour it was a slog.
Towards the lodge we turned off the track as bidden and set about negotiating the wild tracts of tussocky grass and peaty hags before heading upwards on pathless slopes, picking our way through boulder fields. It was tough going.....
Eventually, we hit the summit plateau, and it's a long march around the flat lands of the top of Maoile Lunndaidh to eventually home in on the summit. 236 out of 282 done. Then there's the small matter of getting back again.
Actually there's no techincial difficulties; no real navigational issues; its just the scope and scale of this one that makes it such a brute. I checked in WalkHighlands and its the 4th least visited Munro on the circuit (obv Cheescake and Lurg Mhor are bottom and somewhat surprisingly to me 3rd least visited is Sgurr Mhor- which I did about 10 years back; a fantastic day in the swirling mist.
About half way back to the start, we encountered a solitary rumble of thunder which precipitated 10 minutes of - erm - precipitation! Nothing too drastic; we dried out well before we got back the start. Slightly frustrating that the reason we'd bailed out on the South Glen Shiel Ridge was over weather concerns which didn't really materialsie (I notice CanCarrier managed the SGSR on the same day - bah!)
Anyhoo, off to get tidied up and we decided to settle into the same spot overnight as the previous evening; She and Fi went for a quick dip whilst I 'cooked dinner' and as happens in these situations, suddenly it's gone 9, everyone is tired and its bedtime....
46 left to do.
