I'm in bother :-(
These boots are Mr A's pride & joy, to the extent he wears them all the time.
Except today......so I decided they needed some tlc so set to with the cherry blossom boot polish (other brands are available) to shine them up from the scuffed, scruffy grey that they were, to parade ground black. A new set of laces (to replace the old snapped ones) and voila! good as new.

I was feeling pretty pleased with myself, until Mr A came home. The horrified look on his face signified that I had committed a cardinal sin; followed by a mournful sob of 'nooooooooo'!

I stick by my decision, they look much better and I argued they will last longer too but Mr A complained he spent 3 months 'distressing them' so I've unwittingly undone all his hard work :-(
